Project Outline: The theoretical basis for coronal waves was laid out in the mid 1980s by describing the oscillations of a plasma cylinder imbedded in a parallel magnetic field, and studying the properties of these oscillations. These oscillations were intially grouped by their degree of symmetry around the cylinder, oscillations involving a pure translation of the cylinder were described as 'kink' oscillations, and those purely axisymmetric, i.e. involving a contraction or expansion of the cylinder, were called 'sausage' oscillations.

It is these sausage oscillations that have been the focus of my research, using a simple 1-D wave model it has been possible to study how effective these oscillations can be constrainted by different cylinders, and even extended to considering the slab geometry.
