Samuel Page
I graduated from the University of Wales Bangor with a Masters in Analytical Chemistry and proceeded to work there for 2 years as a technician running the two NMR instruments and various other analytical equipment. This led me to applying for a PhD here in Warwick where I am undertaking a PhD in Solid State NMR.
Project Title:
Low Field 7Li and 31P MAS NMR Studies of Paramagnetic Olivine and Substituted Olivine-Based Battery Materials
Project Description:
In my PhD project I will investigate Paramagnetic battery materials by low field NMR. This will involve research into battery materials such as LiFePO4. This is important to help facilitate a change from the reliance on fossil fuels to an effective use of renewable energy by storing any energy created for when it can be used most effectively. However due to many battery materials paramagnetism it can be difficult to obtain any reasonable structural information from traditional methods in solid state NMR. This structural information is obscured from two fundamental contributions namely the Fermi contact and electron-nuclear dipolar interactions. These effects can be reduced by running low field NMR which is a relatively unexplored area of solid state analysis. Another technique that can be explored can be Fast MAS to reduce the large spinning sideband manifolds from obscuring structural data.
Teaching and Demonstrating:
I currently Deamonstrate the first year physics lab here at Warwick.
