Title: Using Meta-Analytic Data to Understand why Educational RCT Impacts Persist and Fade
Host: Dieter Wolke
Abstract: Policymakers and researchers invest in educational interventions with the hope that early gains in learning will lead to longer-term effects on developmental outcomes. However, accumulating evidence suggests that initial impacts from early educational interventions often fade in the years following the intervention's end. In this talk, we will present new work that has leveraged data aggregated across studies, including meta-analytic data, to examine specific developmental theories that can help us forecast when interventions are likely to have persistent effects. These analyses allowed us to investigate widely held theories regarding intervention implementation, post-treatment environments, and skill types. Implications for educational policy and theory will be discussed.
