How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

PGR Career Development Series: Picture My Research
H1.49 Humanities

With the new academic year starting in October, we are planning and organising a whole new PGR Career Development series for you. This year’s series will be organised by Dr Suzanne Aussems and Dr Chiara Gambi.

The first in-person workshop will be on Wednesday the 12th of October from 4-5pm in room H1.49 and will be titled: “Picture my research”. During this workshop, we would like to ask PhD students and postdocs to explain their research in 3 minutes, in the format of an elevator pitch. The 3-minute pitch should be easy to understand for a non-specialist audience. You may use one static slide as a visual aid if you wish, but otherwise it’s just you telling us about what you do in your research! We have modelled this exercise after the 3-minute thesis competition which is held annually at the University of Warwick, more information can be seen here. The goal of the workshop is for PGRs to learn about the research of others and to learn how to present their research in a very short and accessible format. This can be incredibly useful when you are networking at a busy event, especially when you only have limited time to explain what you do and to make a memorable and positive impression. Being able to give a good elevator pitch can really make the difference in opening the door for further conversation and securing a postdoc or job.

If you would like to participate in the “Picture my research” workshop, please register your interest on this form (by 7 October 2022 at the latest). If you would like to give a 3-minute presentation to picture your research, then please indicate this on the registration form. If you just want to listen to the presentations of others, that is fine, but of course we encourage everyone to present their research in 3 minutes.

We also plan to organise a social event afterwards in the Varsity pub (from 5pm). If you cannot make it to the workshop and you just want to come to the pub to socialise with other PGRs, then please still register your interest on the form so that we can make sure we book a large enough space.

We look forward to seeing many of you at this first event in the PGR Career Development series.
