Athena Swan survey 2020

The Psychology Department are due to renew its Athena Swan Bronze Award in November 2020. The BPS strongly encourage holding the Award and it is a requirement to apply for certain funding.

The Athena Swan Working Group aim to spread the load of compiling the application, but need the support of the whole Department if they are to apply for a Silver Award this time.

This Survey has been devised as a quick way to supply (anonymous) qualitative data to evidence progress against the last Action Plan and look for ideas for the new submission.

Completing the survey should take 20 minutes

and we are aiming for 100% participation!

Section 1: Recruitment of academics to Senior Posts

1a (AP1.1) What are your views on convening a search Committee to identify potentail female candidates for senior role recruitment?

1 b (AP1.2) Do you have any ideas on how the Department can promote strong role models for potential job applicants (eg role models on your webpages)?

Question 1c and 1d for staff who recruit. Otherwise go to section 2.

1c (AP1.4) Are you aware that the Department has standard text about the Department being an inclusive environment and has it appeared in your advertisements?

1d (AP1.4) If you recruit, do you always ensure that the panel composition for recruitment to posts you are responsible for are representative?

Section 2: Support for career advancement for existing members of staff

2a (AP2.1) Do you feel that the PDR process supports your promotion ambitions (Reviewees) and/or (Reviewers) identifies potential colleagues eligible for promotion?

2b (AP2.4) Do you feel the Work load model (WLM) is transparent and accurately reflects the split of roles and responsiblities in the Department?

2c (AP2.5) Do you feel there is adequate Administrative Role rotation in the Department?

2d (AP2.6 & AP2.8) Are you satisfied with the Department’s support for promotion and professional development (see Human Resources and Career)?

2e (AP2.7) Do you feel that the Department Training page helps you keep abreast of your training needs/ keeps you up-to-date with University requirements?
