What we created: The Inclusive Autism Research Participation Framework
We have created an autism research participation framework to support recruitment from culturally and ethnically diverse groups. This framework is based on insights from our research process, the ELPART, and focus group interviews (see below for focus group results). Please note, we recruited primarily parents and caregivers of autistic children. Next, we plan to co-develop this framework with culturally and ethnically diverse autistic individuals (hence V1, to be further developed). This is not a strict checklist but a set of considerations. The framework promotes inclusive and community-focused recruitment by encouraging collaboration with various collaborative groups. It helps researchers embrace cultural context, empathy, and reflective practice.
