Many opportunities to enhance your career

Psychology students at Warwick can apply for a one-year or part-year intercalated work placement in the UK or abroad, to be taken between their second and final years. You will gain support and guidance around identifying and applying for placements. From volunteering to placements and internships, our mission is to support your career development and equip you with the skillset needed for the 21st-century workplace. Our students have undertaken one-year or part-year intercalated work placements in organisations like Virgin Media, BMW, City Year UK, Microsoft, the Government, and other employers, including research agencies and healthcare organisations.

A placement should equip you for the future, such as:

The development of high-level transferrable skills such as confidence, communication, flexibility, time management, team working.
Understanding of how to apply work-based learning to other areas of personal development.
Transferable skills that are valued by employers and give you a competitive edge when applying for jobs

Psychology Research Skills Development Scheme (PRSDS)

The PRSDS is for Psychology undergraduate students who wish to get hands-o experience with psychology research. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to get involved in real-life research within the Department of Psychology. Running experiments, preparing stimulus material, and setting up, piloting, and analysing surveys, are just some examples of activities you could get involved in as a PRSDS student.

Placement, Outreach, and Engagement optional module:

Students have the opportunity to apply for a final year optional module which would involve working with an organisation to support and advance their outreach and engagement portfolio in an area linked to Psychology.

This optional module, which has a limited number of places available, enables students to:

Develop an understanding of and expertise in outreach and engagement around a topic related to psychology
Learn key career skills such as project management, time management, working to a brief
Work in a professional capacity - liaising and collaborating with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients
Develop transferable skills (e.g. leadership qualities, self-confidence, communication skills)

Psychology Placements Teaching Fellow, Dr. Gitit Kadar-Satat

“I am a Teaching Fellow who oversees all undergraduate placements and internships in the Department of Psychology. I support students in identifying and applying for work experience opportunities that will develop their skills and enhance their employability.

I am responsible for the Intercalated Year Work Placement programme. I am the module convenor for 'Placement, Outreach, and Engagement' - a final year optional module in Psychology. I offer workshops, group meetings, and one-to-one appointments.”
