SCiP Networking Event, 5 December 2017
Supply chain visibility or vulnerability? The holy grail of supply chain management is the ability to be omniscient (to see all demand), and omnipresent (have the resource available in the right place, in the right form, at the right time to fulfil all demand). Put more simply, to have end-to-end supply chain visibility. Visibility of demand and supply can create vulnerabilities too. Suppliers may not want their customers to know, just how many times they have almost failed to supply. Such visibility might also be leveraged by competitors, or hackers. In this session we explored the importance of visibility to contemporary supply chains, and delicate balance between visibility and vulnerability. |
