Booking onto a Module

How do I book?

You need to book via Success Factors and search for “TAS”. You will see the dates of the modules and click “request learning”

How do I access Success Factors?

Speak to your HR contact who will provide you with instructions and your log in details.

How do I choose what to attend?

Speak with your line manager about what is most suitable for you and your job role and responsibilities.

Please be aware that this learning offering is locally funded, so please discuss it with your manager to understand the local training budget allocation for this activity. Once you have completed the module, your local department will be cross charged by the central PE team. If you cancel, the cross charges will apply as normal too.

When do I choose?

All modules are booked on a "first come first served" basis, so you should aim to book your place at the earliest opportunity to avoid disappointment.

However, before you book you should take sometime to look through the available options with your manager to decided which modules are most appropriate for you to sign up to.

What happens if I can’t book the module I want?

Modules are filled on a first-come-first served basis, so if there is a particular module that you have identified will be beneficial to you in your role, then you must aim to book at the earliest opportunity. If there is a particular module that you have identified but it is currently full, then you should add yourself to the "wait list" for this module - sometimes spaces do become available.

You can of course book onto an alternative module if there are others which meet your requirements.

I need some specific advice about the PPMC module, where can I find this?

The PPMC module is extremely popular and runs several times per year. It is delivered using a slightly different structure and approach to other modules, so if you are interested in learning more, we have developed a specific set of FAQs for this module only.

Attending and Participating in a Module

Where are the modules taught?

Modules delivered by Warwick, Loughborough and Coventry: from their campus.

All other modules are taught within the midlands area for your convenience. You will be sent Joining Instructions for each module that you sign up for prior to it's start date so that you can plan your journey.

How long do the modules last?

The modules are taught intensively across a full week, from Monday to Friday. Timings may vary, but expect to be in class between 08:00 -17:00.

What happens if I can’t attend?

If you cannot attend a module that you have signed up for then you must let us know at the earliest opportunity.

Please be aware that module registrations are confirmed 6 weeks prior to module start date. Before this date you can change modules or dates without charge, however after the 6 week cut off, a charge is made to your department for non-attendance.

Do I need to take holiday to attend the module?

No.

- You’re attendance on modules is considered a part of your working hours.

- Your associated assessments should be completed in your own time.

Completing Assessments

What work or assessments do I have to do?

This depends on the University running the modules, but the assessment is usually a piece of coursework, submitted to the individual University. Some modules do require an exam.

How much work do I have to do outside of the module?

Each single credit is usually attributed to around 10 hours of work. Therefore, a 10 credit module equates to 100 hours of work and a 15 credit module will equate to 150 hours of work.

This includes:

- Attendance at the module, amounting to approx. 40 hours.

- Private study amounting to approximately 60 hours, including both pre- and post-module work.

You will find further details of expectations for each module on Success Factors

Is there a time limit on the time taken to complete and pass a module?

Yes. Each university will have standard rules on the time allowed, which will vary dependent on the university and module taken. For example, at Warwick, you are given 12 weeks to complete the PMA for the module. You should check with each University running each module if you are unsure.

What if I don’t submit or attend my assessment?

The assessment is a compulsory part of the module so it is essential that you complete it and submit on time, and that you must ensure that your work is of a good standard and a fair attempt at the question posed.

Should you fail to complete the assessment, your department will be charged if you don’t complete the assessment and you will receive a mark of 0.

What happens if I don't complete the coursework on time?

There are penalties which are incurred for late completion of work, which will reduce the number of marks awarded for your piece of work. This can lead to a mark of zero being awarded and therefore failure to . Again each university has its own rules and these will apply to their own modules.

Can I request an extension for the completion of post work?

Yes. Each university understands the special nature of their JLR delegates as full time employees and will be willing to discuss any genuine reasons for an extension.

What guidelines are there on good academic practice for completing my assessment?

To help you, each University will provide you with specific guidelines including information on referencing, plagiarism, formatting and layout.

Please note that plagiarism is treated very seriously and we always check for this when you submit your assessments. All Universities will have their own guidance, however if you are studying modules with the University of Warwick, you are STRONGLY advised to visit the University provided self-learning tool, PlagiarWISE, which will take you through information to help you avoid being accused of plagairism and collusion and to understrand proper referencing techniques.

Qualifications and Regulations

What qualification can I gain?

Each module carries between 10 -20 credits, so upon successful completion of each module you will gain academic credit which it is possible to use towards gaining different qualifications. You can find out more about this using our Quick Guide to Progressing to Postgraduate Level Awards

I want an MSc, can I use this scheme to acquire this qualification?

The scheme is first and foremost about developing the skills the business needs to support future growth. By linking the modules to accreditation, the company has enabled employees to have a transferable qualification as an outcome.

The progression of an individual through the scheme is wholly dependent on the business needs for the individual to acquire new or develop existing skills. Hence, if your development plan agreed with your manager builds up over time to the required number of credits for an MSc (including a suitable project), then that will be the qualification you will awarded. This will be subject to the standard university rules.

You can find out more about the MSc Project at our MSc Project FAQ Pages.

If I think I already 'know' some modules can I just do the exams and coursework at a lower price and receive a qualification more quickly?

No. There is no reduced cost for completing only the assessment. As class work is normally 5 days per module, it would be difficult to imagine a scenario where you would qualify more quickly.

Eligibility for the Scheme

If I leave JLR can I stay on the programme?

The company will no longer fund any further expenditure incurred by continuing attendance on the programme.

In addition a standard Academic Programmes Training Contract will be used with respect to repayment obligations.

Can agency staff join the scheme?

The company will under normal circumstances not fund agency staff. However, this is dependent on the demands of the business and skills required by a manager.

Can any element of my first degree count?

No.

Help and Support

What support can I get from within JLR?

- Each module has a Module Sponsor, who can be contacted for any JLR specific queries.

- You are also encouraged to use the JLR Technical Library.

- You can of course also seek support and advice from your Line Manager or HR Direct, who will always endeavour to answer any questions you have.

What support can I get from the University?

There are lots of ways to get support from the University.

Each module will have a Module Tutor/Module Leader who you can contact via email or make an appointment to speak to in regards to academic or subject-related questions. You can also contact the Programme Co-ordinator or Administrative Co-ordinator at the relevant University who will be able to help you with questions around operational aspects of your course.

Please wait at least 2 working days for a response and don’t forget that our offices are closed at the weekend.

There is also a wealth of information on these TAS webpages, which you can access at any point and will give you general guidance about the Technical Accreditation Scheme.
