Martin Cortazzi was an invited panel member to contribute an online presentation on 'International researchers share their findings on the PhD the viva'

The panel, 'International researchers share their findings on the PhD the viva' for South African universities, and organised to ensure quality postgraduate experience and to help establish PhD vivas where this is not yet compulsory. Among over 100 attending were two university vice-chancellors, the National Coordinator of quality assurance, senior professors, doctoral supervisors and candidates. Martin Cortazzi with Lixian Jin also gave a plenary conference presentation on 'Applied linguistic perspectives on developing intercultural communication' at the Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai, Oct. 31st- Nov. 1st Finally, Martin Cortazzi with Lixian Jin gave an invited presentation on 'Planetization through intercultural Communication' for the 23rd Conference on International Exchange and Professionals, attended by 1,200 participants from 70 countries, on November 2nd - 3rd in Shanghai, China,

Conclusion of British Council funded Research Grant

Following the conclusion British Council funded research grant, Tony Liddicoat, Neil Murray and Steve Mann presented a panel session entitled “Supporting Sustainable English Teacher Continuous Professional Development in Yunnan Province” as a part of the British Council’s “China Teaching English Online Conference” on 3 November. The presentation was a report on the three collaborative projects undertaken with Chinese partners in Yunnan and they were joined on the panel by the Chinese partners in the project: Liu Fengqin Dali University), Wang Ying (Kunming University of Science and Technology) and Yunjie Ho (Yunnan Normal University).

This year, WICAL will be held online (28th - 30th June 2021) and we look forward to welcoming even more scholars, presenters, and attendants from across the world. Our theme is ‘Crossing Boundaries’, so we welcome interdisciplinary topics in the area of Applied Linguistics.
