Miriam has taught English and worked as a teacher educator in a variety of EFL/EAP settings. Her experience includes working in the UK, the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, and Tanzania. During her 35-year career, she has taught in schools, Further Education, Higher Education and Private Language Schools.
Miriam has extensive experience in teaching English and supporting pre- and in-service teachers across various EFL (English as a Foreign Language) and EAP (English for Academic Purposes) settings. Her professional journey spans several countries, including the UK, the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, and Tanzania. Over a 35-year career, she has taught in a range of educational institutions such as schools, Further Education colleges, Higher Education institutions, and private language schools.
She taught EAP and ESAP (English for Specific Academic Purposes) on the Warwick International Foundation Programme from 2011 to 2019 and has worked as a CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) main course tutor for much of her career. In the summers of 2018 and 2019, Miriam served as the teaching mentor in Tanzania for the Warwick in Africa charity working together with local teachers to plan and deliver a teacher development programme for teachers in Tanzania.
In addition to her teaching roles, Miriam has spent 15 years as a teaching and learning mentor in Further Education, supporting educators in enhancing their teaching practices. Currently, she works in the field of Applied Linguistics, where she designs, writes, and delivers teacher development and English language courses for the Short Courses provision in Applied Linguistics. She also teaches on the MA TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) programme and leads the 'Curricula and Materials Design' core module
Miriam's research interests lie in the internationalisation of pedagogy, focusing on collaborative projects between EAP practitioners and discipline lecturers. She is also passionate about teacher research, particularly Exploratory Action Research, and its role in continuous professional development (CPD) for teachers.
