Visiting Research Fellows

We regularly host postdoctoral scholars and established researchers who wish to complete a self-funded, short-term research visit in Applied Linguistics at Warwick. Visiting research fellows must be engaged in projects that match or complement activities and expertise in our department, and should have clear potential to lead to collaborations such as jointedly authored publications, grant applications, or research networks.

Visiting research fellows must be hosted by a colleague from Applied Linguistics. Prospective fellows should examine Applied Linguistics staff pages and research outputs, and should contact academic staff to enquire about availability to host a collaborative visit. Applied Linguistics staff must apply for visits on behalf of prospective visiting academic fellows. We will not consider applications submitted directly by prospective fellows. Therefore, please do not email multiple colleagues without awaiting responses; visits will only develop where a foundation for meaningful collaboration has been established.

Visiting academic fellows will be provided with shared office space, full access to University facilities, and integrated into the research culture of Applied Linguistics and the University of Warwick. Fellows must pay a bench fee (currently £2,500 per annum plus VAT, pro rata), and must pay any required visa and entry fees, healthcare surcharges, and other costs. Fellows receive no pay or sponsorship from Warwick, and are responsible for all living, sustenance, fieldwork, and other costs.

Generally we cannot accommodate visiting academic fellowships by colleagues who have not completed a doctoral degree. Doctoral candidates currently pursuing PhD studies at another institution may be eligible to spend time here as a visiting student. See https://warwick.ac.uk/services/dc/policy/jointphd/visiting_phds/ for information. Visiting studentships depend on a high degree of support and mentoring from academic staff. They will only be hosted where there is a very strong case that a visit will enhance the work of both the candidate and Applied Linguistics academic staff. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to enquire with Applied Linguistics colleagues prior to making any application.
