China Scholarship Council

Open to International students only.

We're pleased to offer up to 30 joint funded PhD scholarships in collaboration with China Scholarships Council.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria set out by the CSC.
  • Applicants must hold a Peoples Republic of China Passport (applicants from Hong Kong or Taiwan are not eligible) and either be permanently resident in China or studying overseas. Those working overseas are not eligible.
  • Where students have prior experience of studying overseas (including the UK) it is important to check eligibility rules on the China Scholarship Council website, this includes Current 1st year PhD students and those in year '1' of a 1+3.
  • Applicants must hold an unconditional* offer for a full time PhD at the University of Warwick commencing in October 2024 OR;
  • Be currently enrolled in the first year of a PhD or MPhil/PhD at the University. You must be within the first 12 months of enrolment of a PhD or MPhil/PhD at the University in October 2025.

*Outstanding conditions accepted by CSC are; completion of a degree or ATAS.

Selection Criteria:

In order to be considered for this funding, applicants must have completed ALL of the following steps:

  • Apply for admission by 13 January 2025 (23:59 GMT)
  • Submit a scholarship application by 16 January 2025 (23:59 GMT)
  • Obtain an unconditional offer to the University of Warwick by 24 January 2025
  • Submit an application to China Scholarship Council by their deadline of 7 March 2025

Awards made for entry in Autumn 2025 will include the following:

  • The University will cover the full payment of overseas tuition fees for the duration of the CSC funding period and a stipend enhancement;
  • China Scholarships Council will provide a maintenance stipend and return international airfare between the UK and China for successful applicants.
  • Successful candidates will be required to return to China after completing their PhD.

 

Applications for 2025/26 entry are now open and will close on 13 January 2025. All applicants are strongly advised to read the CSC Guidance Notes 2025/26 before submitting an application.

Apply to the China Scholarship Council - University of Warwick Scholarship

You must obtain an unconditional offer from the University of Warwick by 24 January 2025. If you are successful in being nominated by the University of Warwick for the scholarship, you will then need to apply directly to the CSC for funding.

Application Deadline:

The deadline for submitting a scholarship application at the University of Warwick is 16 January 2025, 23.59 GMT.

Next Steps - Selection Process:

The University of Warwick will assess the applications received and produce a list of students to be recommended for a CSC scholarship.
All applicants will be notified via email by 7 March 2025 whether they have been shortlisted for funding. Successful candidates will then be issued with a conditional offer of funding.

Successful candidates will then need to apply directly to CSC where their application will be reviewed. Applicants should check the CSC website for details and meet their application deadline. CSC will inform applicants of the final outcome of their funding application in June 2025. Final decisions are made by CSC.

Only students who were recommended for a CSC scholarship by the University AND who received an offer of funding from CSC will be awarded a scholarship.

CSC nominees will not be offered more than one Warwick Scholarship, if nominees are successful in an alternative Warwick scholarship competition prior to the CSC nomination deadline they will be asked to choose whether they wish to proceed with a CSC nomination or the alternative.

MA TESOL Bursary

MA TESOL Bursary

Open to UK and International students.

We are offering three competitive bursaries to outstanding students and professionals who wish to study full-time on our MA TESOL for entry in Autumn 2024:

  • Two worldwide bursaries worth 50% of the current tuition fee: you must be from outside the UK, with an excellent academic record, with at least 2 years of full-time professional/ teaching experience (or equivalent), and have accepted an offer on the programme from Warwick. Deadline for Applications: Friday 30th May 2025

  • One UK bursary worth £3,000: you must be a UK candidate with an excellent academic record who has accepted an offer on the programme from Warwick. Deadline for Applications: Friday 27th June 2025

You can only apply after you have accepted your place as a full-time student. Please complete the following using no more than 1000 words:

  • Explain how your academic background and professional experiences have prepared you for study on the MA TESOL degree;
  • Explain how you would like to use the knowledge and skills acquired on the MA TESOL degree to contribute to the improvement of English language teaching in your own institutional, regional, or national context.

        • Academic excellence in a prior undergraduate degree programme
        • A genuine, evidence-based interest in and/or sensitivity to intercultural/multicultural issues
        • A successful and evidenced track record of working in multicultural contexts
        • Experience in training, coaching or consulting regarding intercultural communication (Desirable)

        SJTU-Warwick Joint PhD Programme

        SJTU-Warwick Joint PhD Programme

        The SJTU-Warwick Joint PhD Programme has been established with the intention of creating opportunities for both institutions and their students to collaborate on high-quality research projects. The programme also provides a framework for the progression of joint research projects supported by the SJTU-Warwick joint seed fund.

        • A Research, Training and Supporting Grant (RTSG) of £5,000.
