session 2
This session is about what we have gained from reconnaisance and reaching conclusions for next steps.
The PowerPoint presentation is attached alongside IWB activity exercise and course notes.
The support for using the library is attached too. Librarians rightly assume that we carry out focused search strategies but another approach is snowballing - following up references from articles.
I prefer a hybrid approach - I tend to 'snowball' and then more systematically go through the journals which seem most relevant. In our case this might include:
-
Action Research (this takes in a broad range of articles from different fields)
-
Australasian Journal of Educational Technology (accessible articles by no means limited to Australasian context)
-
British Educational Research Journal (this typically covers overviews of research into many fields)
-
British Journal of Educational Studies (again broad based)
-
Computers & Education (again broad reporting of new technology in education, often reports on more ‘experimental’ research)
-
Education and Information Technologies (broad and often very readable reporting of new technology in education)
-
Educational Action Research
-
Journal of Computer Assisted Learning (broad and increasingly international journal reporting use of new technology in education)
-
Pedagogy Technology and Education (has its roots in teacher education but has gained a broader remit)
I know it is a nightmare and please I am not responsible but to use Athens you must
- have been offered and accepted a place on the course - there are continuing difficulties here please contact Caroline to clear this one up [caroline.parker@warwick.ac.uk 024 76 523830]

Accreditation of Prior Learning
The MA is made up of 180 CATS
60 CATS for the leading education enquiry modules
60 CATS next year for the learning with new technology and research of new technologies
60 CATS for your final project
If you have previous CATS which you would like to the university to consider you will need to complete a form. Go to
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/wie/courses/apl
NB if the CATS have been technology related then the obvious courses to seek credit against are learning with new technology [IE 932] and research of new technologies. If they are not technology related then it is more complicated. If they are in an action research module this is also more complicated as you would be claiming credit for one you are doing.
