Jo is an Assistant Professor on the Primary PGCE course; she is the Programme Lead for Primary School Direct and Module Lead for the Subject Studies Module.

Professional and Teaching Expertise

Jo is involved in the planning, delivery, evaluation and assessment of the taught programme for all Primary and Early Years trainees across all three modules related to the course. Her teaching commitments lie primarily on the Professional Enquiry and English programmes - having previously led the English programme for 6 years at CTE.

Jo also supervises and supports the progress and success of the Primary trainees both academically and professionally through her roles as a personal tutor and moderation tutor.

Prior to joining CTE, Jo learned from 14 years teaching experience within both the Early Years and across all Primary age phases and in starkly contrasting settings. Her passion lies in enabling an inclusive, creative and child-centred curriculum which supports and encourages independence. Jo is passionate about English – reading, writing and spoken language, and she believes that oracy, good quality texts, and the promotion of reading for pleasure should be at the heart of children’s experiences in school.

Whilst in school, Jo led many subject areas and mentored students and NQTs; she was also accredited APP moderator and KS1 moderator for Warwickshire LEA and was able to visit schools in Australia to focus on developing pupils’ metacognition. This, together with the time spent in Partnership schools, observing trainees and supporting mentoring, means that Jo is able to bring to Warwick a broad, extensive, knowledge of teaching and learning and a clear understanding of the diverse nature of schools and their children as learners.

Jo is committed to critically promoting research-informed pedagogies that will enable trainees to maximise pupils’ success in school and to support their engagement within a rich learning environment.
