Information for applicants

You can train with Warwick wherever you are based. If you are planning to train to teach in England, you can apply directly to our digital PGCE with support from a school local to where you live. This gives you ownership of your school placements and allows you to tailor your PGCE to suit your own circumstances and remain local to where you live.

You will have access to the same high-quality teaching as our well regarded international and digital Lead Partner cohorts, with a mixture of interactive synchronous online workshops and self-study materials on one day each week. The remaining four days are spent in your placement school setting.

Your placement school will be supported by access to our extensive mentor training resources, detailed placement learning units and a designated University Lead Mentor. This will ensure that you have the same level of support in school as in our established partnerships.

To join this programme, you will need to seek the support of a local school. Following your interview, if you are offered a place on the programme, it will be conditional on receiving confirmation of this in the form of a School Statement of Support. Please read the FAQ section for information on options in the event of a school withdrawing support.

Information for Schools

We welcome interest in partnership with Schools to support training in areas of the country where access to high-quality University partnerships for ITE are challenging to sustain.

Schools can support individual PGCE beginning teachers with The University of Warwick across Early Years, Primary and Secondary age phases in a wide range of subjects (For Secondary Subjects offered, please see the FAQ section below).

On our Digital PGCE with QTS programme, university teaching is provided through a blend of weekly online workshops supported by individual learning activities that take place online or in school.

As well as supporting the development of excellent teachers in your region, you will have access to impactful mentor training resources, the support of an experienced lead mentor and opportunities for wider staff development with the University.

Each applicant to the programme will require a supporting statement from a school that is agreeing to host the main placement. You can find more information on what is required by the supporting school <add link here>. The main placement will run over three terms with a six week break in the Spring term for a complementary second school placement.

We encourage schools to consider supporting applicants, but would want to assure that your school has the capacity to support them through the year. It is strongly recommended that schools meet applicants for an informal interview. A formal interview will be completed by a safer recruitment trained university tutor. Should the placement need to be terminated for any reason, this may have a significant impact on the beginning teacher, either extending the length of the training or requiring a relocation to one of our local partnerships.

Placement fees

Supporting schools will receive funding toward training costs from the University:

  • Main placement, two payments of £640 in the autumn and summer term.
  • Complementary placement school, a single payment of £320 in the spring term.

We can also support digital partnerships with groups of schools or trusts looking to strengthen their initial teacher training offer. If you are interested in a partnership with Warwick to recruit and train a small cohort of your own trainee teachers, or to employ a Postgraduate Apprentice Teacher, please do contact us through the link below.
