Having read the handbook, there are no aspects that concern me as such. I guess one element I have been thinking of is making sure that the shift from observing to teaching part of a lesson, team teaching or taking a whole lesson is well timed and appropriate for the trainee. This will hopefully enable them to make progress. Also, although I am familiar with things, I need to remember that the trainee won’t be and that they will be taking on a lot of information. Therefore I need to be thorough and fully explain certain processes such as behaviour policies, merits and detentions and ensure that they are prepared if and when they need things. There may be features of the school or teaching that are obvious to us or that we take for granted and I need to remember that the trainee is starting out, they are on placement 1 and they may not be very familiar with school environments and terminology. In addition, it will be important to be aware of university assignments and tasks, especially any that will need to be linked to the placement or forms I need to fill out so that we stay on top of everything.

I agree that I want to make sure that I am giving my mentees the right level of experience and that there is a smooth transition from observations to group work and then onto team teaching and some full lessons in half term one.

I am so pleased to see that we are taking the same stepped approach from observations into group-work , then team teaching before whole class teaching. I would hope to support my mentee throughout this process. My concern is about getting the pacing right and hopefully she won't feel too out of her depth

My biggest concern is that I don't want to give my mentees too much or too little experience in the first placement. Although they have expressed a desire to do as much as possible as soon as possible, I need to ensure that they are not overwhelmed too early but, similarly, that they have the experience they need to reflect and learn from.
