As you are aware, when applying for the PGCE Primary course at Warwick, you have to select a ‘Specialism’. The ‘specialism’ part of the course is a subject enhancement that is delivered over four days during the year, which also has a 2000 word assignment focussing on your specialist subject. This year, we have been working hard to approve two new specialist subjects in Physical Education and Creative Arts. These have now been approved. We have also opened this opportunity up to Early Years trainees. Therefore, you all now have the option to select any of the following Specialisms:

• English
• Maths
• Science
• Special Educational Needs
• Creative Arts
• Physical Education

It is worth remembering that you do not need to have an A-Level or degree in your specialist subject. In the past, many trainees have selected a specialist subject because they have a passion for the subject and maybe even want to coordinate the subject in the future. However, some trainees select a specialist subject because they feel they would benefit from the additional four days training and further enhance their subject knowledge.

Primary Maths Specialism Bursary: A maths bursary of £6000 is available if you have a minimum of Grade B at A-Level Maths (which you will need to provide original certicate for) and you have an offer for a place on the Primary PGCE. If you are eligible for the maths specialism, please select ‘Maths with Bursary’, to ensure that you are guaranteed to be in the maths specialism group.

When completing the form, please select three different specialisms. We will endeavour to allocate you either your first or second choices. Once you have enrolled in September, it won’t be possible to change your choice. Please therefore take this opportunity to reflect on your selection as should you wish to change, then now is the time!
