Green spaces


Stratford has many green spaces to visit and enjoy.

The Recreation GroundLink opens in a new window A large open space next to the river, the recreation ground is open to the public and offers a range of leisure facilities including a paddling pool, a mini-golf course and a large grass area for informal sports activities and general recreational use. You can take a trip across the river on a chain ferry, built in 1937 and still going strong.

Bancroft Gardens these gardens are on the bank of the River Avon and in front of the world-famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Firs Gardens - donated for the use of the town's residents in 1910, the gardens are a tranquil corner and home to the Peony PavilionLink opens in a new window, a gift from Fuzhou in China.

The Greenway Link opens in a new window the Stratford Greenway cycle route links Stratford and Long Marston and follows the path of a local branch line closed in the 1970s.-



The Welcombe Hills and Clopton Park.Link opens in a new window a 60 hectare nature reserve just to the north of the town.
