Barclays and Warwick partnership
The COVID-19 pandemic is continuing to have an unprecedented effect on societies, communities and economies worldwide, including students studying for their degree. In comparison to the start of this year, there are 174,000 fewer 16 to 24 year-olds in employment.
We are incredibly delighted and proud to announce that Warwick has partnered with Barclays, who have been leading the way supporting communities through its Covid-19 Community Aid Package. The company have committed to match employee personal giving to support causes aiming to mitigate the many different ways the pandemic has impacted communities.
Last year, Warwick’s donor community came together to give over £93,000 to help provide support for students facing challenging circumstances through having lost part-time jobs or other financial support, as a result of the pandemic. Donations from friends and supporters of the University have already helped to ensure that not only have students in urgent need of financial relief received financial support in times of hardship, but that our medical students working on the NHS frontline have been assisted in returning to their studies, and that disadvantaged students from low-income backgrounds are supported through Scholarships. Gifts to our Student Support Fund also helps students by diversifying their skills and experience through funded Internships, Volunteering and Work Experience.
We would like to encourage the Warwick community to strengthen these programmes by supporting the Warwick Student Support Fund and make Barclays employees aware that the Barclays Covid-19 Community Aid Package will match their gifts pound for pound, doubling the impact of donations. The scheme will run until the end of July, so now is the perfect time for alumni to give back. Please watch the video and support this activity:
