London
What is a visit to the UK without a trip to London? The capital city is the cultural and financial hub of the country and the things to do are endless. You could visit this city five or six times and still find new things to do. The museums, the parks, the shopping, and the theatres make this a great city, a must-see for all visitors to the UK.
Liverpool
A city like no other, this city-on-the-docks boasts a rich history in things such as music, football, and true hard graft. There are plenty of museums to see including the Liverpool Museum, the Tate Modern, the Walker Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum, just to name a few. Visitors can also see the two historic Premier League football stadiums of Anfield and Goodison Park, before having a drink at the world-famous Cavern Club.
Manchester
Sticking with the theme of northwestern cities with two Premier League football teams and a huge music scene, why not check out the large city of Manchester? This city is the home to the National Football Museum, ideally placed following the historic success of Manchester United and recent success of Manchester City. Outside of football, Manchester is a place known for its hard work and sense of togetherness through the tough times. The Trafford Centre is one of the biggest and most incredible shopping hubs in the entire country and the city boasts some incredible talent within the music industry, even branding the city’s style as ‘Madchester’.
Scotland
Scotland is a country found north of England famous for its stunning highlands, national pride, and a historic rivalry with the English. While in Scotland you may see people eating haggis, wearing kilts, and playing bagpipes. Cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow are where you’ll find a wide variety of culture, whilst the highlands showcase some of the most beautiful scenery this nation has to offer. Home of the Highland Games and the Loch Ness Monster, this country bleeds the colours of its flag and welcomes those from all backgrounds.
Wales
Whether you’re visiting its capital city of Cardiff or climbing one of the biggest mountains in the UK in Snowdonia, you’ll be sure to love Wales. The country is west of England and, like Scotland, has incredible national pride. Wales is a country that loves rugby, castles and giving places incredibly long names. You can really impress the locals by learning some of the Welsh language before you go.
Oxford
Home to the oldest university in the UK, and the 2nd oldest in Europe, Oxford is a hub of knowledge. The city hosts museums such as the Museum of Natural History, Ashmolean Museum, and the iconic Sheldonian Theatre. Just outside of the city centre you can find the likes of Blenheim Palace and Bicester Village.
York
York is a historic walled city found in Yorkshire. The city is famous for its stunning York Minster, Georgian and medieval architecture, and Victorian railway station. The city is notoriously known as the most haunted city in Europe with its chilling atmosphere and regular ghost sightings. The history of the city is portrayed through the likes of The Shambles, Jorvik Viking Centre and the York Dungeons. York is also home to the National Railway Museum, York Castle Museum and York’s Chocolate Story.
Lake District
This stretch of the country is a national park found in the north of England. It is a popular destination for hikers and is one of the best places to go and relax. The lakes are gorgeous, and the local towns are welcoming to tourists. The Lake District is also home to Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England.
Other destinations
There are plenty of towns and cities which have not been mentioned. From the big cities of Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Nottingham, and Bristol to the popular tourist destinations of Bath, Cambridge, Chester, and Salisbury. The UK hosts plenty of must-see destinations.
It’s not just the towns and cities that are worth a visit. It’s also worth considering some of the UK’s most stunning destinations such as the UK’s tallest mountain of Ben Nevis, the mysterious wonder of Stonehenge, the incredible beaches of the Jurassic Coast, the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District, and the many islands like the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man and Isle of Anglesey, Jersey and Guernsey.
