Refresher Mathematics Resources for Economics:

We are delighted to provide you with a brand new resource which we have created for all Economics students joining us in October.

Students studying Economics at Warwick are expected to be able to apply suitable mathematical skills to economic models. To ease the transition for students starting their degrees in economics, we decided to create Maths resources - Refresher Mathematics for Economics. We expect you to plan and work through it before you start your studies at Warwick. Mathematics resources include

  • Learning Activities Guide: on the module page, you will find variety of learning activities including diagnostic quizzes, short videos, lecture slides and worked examples on essential mathematical topics as well as their applications in Economics. You can engage with the activities at your own pace and monitor your progress.
  • Quizzes: a series of quizzes on each topic are available to provide you with information on areas that may need improvement. You can check your understanding of the topics and identify and address gaps in your knowledge with the additional help of tutorial videos, lecture notes, discussion forum and seminar tutor.
  • An online Discussion Forum: this is a fantastic opportunity to ask and clarify all your questions and help out your peers by answering their questions on the forum. You can ask questions anonymously and a module tutor with monitor the discussion to ensure all questions are answered accurately.
  • Office Hours: there will be opportunities in the coming weeks, and throughout the academic year, to meet a tutor online where you can ask questions if you struggle with any of the resources.

For time efficient revision we recommend that you complete the course by sequentially attempting the diagnostic quiz in each section. If you find that you obtain a high score on the quiz, then there is no need to engage with further material within the section (although we recommend that you look through the economic examples as these are unlikely to be covered by A-level curriculum) and proceed to the next section. If you find that some of the questions on the quiz require further revision, then we would advise you to watch through the tutorial videos relevant to the specific topic you need refreshing. We expect that if you are familiar with and able to apply your knowledge to all the topics, completing the course should take no more than 1-2 days of committed work. However, it would be especially beneficial if you are able to identify gaps in your knowledge and make use of the relevant resources beyond the diagnostic quizzes.
