Learning to Learn:

We have created Learning to Learn in Economics to help you familiarising with our blended learning approach and discover and engage with the tools and resources available within the Department to succeed in your learning experience.

Starting a new degree might feel as daunting as it is exciting. Learning to Learn in Economics is a self-study module organised in different sections. Each section includes an e-book or a set of useful external resources that will give you general information about:

1) Our teaching and learning delivery strategy.

2) Specific guidelines on how to use our Virtual Learning Environment (e.g., Moodle) and other technology tools used within the Department to communicate with students and colleagues (e.g., Tabula and MS Teams).

3) The wellbeing and pastoral support available within the Economics Department.

4) Student engagement and career opportunities.

The Academic Writing Skills:

This resource is designed to equip students to understand and confidently execute any writing assignment during their degree programme. It provides a step-by-step writing guidance to demonstrate writing as a process

Transitioning to Economics:

This resource is designed to help students, primarily those who do not have an economics background, to catch up with essential concepts and terminology that will be introduced to them in the first few weeks of term.

Refresher Maths for Economics

Students studying Economics at Warwick are expected to be able to apply suitable mathematical skills to economic models. To ease the transition for students starting their degrees in economics, we decided to create Maths resources - Refresher Mathematics for Economics. We expect you to plan and work through it before you start your studies at Warwick. Mathematics resources include

  • Learning Activities Guide: on the module page, you will find variety of learning activities including short videos, lecture slides and worked examples on essential mathematical topics as well as their applications in Economics. You can watch the videos at your own pace and monitor your progress.
  • Quizzes: a series of quizzes on each topic are available to provide you with information on areas that may need improvement. You can check your understanding of the topics and identify and address gaps in your knowledge with the additional help of a discussion forum and seminar tutor.
  • An online Discussion Forum: this is a fantastic opportunity to ask and clarify all your questions and help out your peers by answering their questions on the forum. You can ask questions anonymously and a module tutor with monitor the discussion to ensure all questions are answered accurately.
  • Office Hours: there will be opportunities in the coming weeks, and throughout the academic year, to meet a tutor online where you can ask questions if you struggle with any of the resources.
