Come and network with a range of employers and management consultancies. The event is for both undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Economics and Joint Degrees.

Economic Consulting Panel Event

Do you want to learn more about what consulting is all about?

Warwick Economics Society is delighted to present this special Economics Consulting Panel Event. This event will welcome panellists from three of the largest global economic consultancy firms: FTI, Charles River Associates and Compass Lexecon. These employers are leading the sector in areas ranging from competition economics to public policy analysis and industrial organisation.

What to expect from the panel event:

■ An explanation of what economic consulting.is all about.

■ Career advice from the panellists on how to succeed in consultancy internship applications.

This event is for students of all degree levels, from first year students to postgraduates, so whether you are interested in a graduate role or just want to learn more about the consulting industry, this event is for you! This is a unique opportunity to get your questions answered!

Keynote Speaker - Richard Hughes - Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR)

'Economics and the Great Challenges of our Time'

How can economists use their knowledge and abilities to help solve three of the great challenges facing the world today: Demographic change and rising geopolitical tensions

About the Speaker

Richard began his five-year term as Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility in October 2020.

He started his career at HM Treasury in 2000 where he worked on a range of domestic and international macroeconomic issues and led the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review, Following a brief secondment to the French Ministry of Finance in 2007, he joined the International Monetary Fund in 2008 where he headed the Fiscal Affairs Department's Public Finance Division and worked on fiscal reform in a range of advanced, emerging, and developing countries.

Richard returned to HM Treasury between 2016 and 2019 as Director of Fiscal Policy where he oversaw the government’s fiscal strategy, debt management, and treasury operations and served as Acting Chief Economist.

In the year leading up to his appointment, Richard was a Research Associate at the Resolution Foundation where he published papers on fiscal rules, public investment, and the economic and fiscal implications of coronavirus. He also served as Senior Counsellor to the Haut Conseil des Finances Publiques (High Council on Public Finance) in France, Lecturer at Sciences Po in Paris, Visiting Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford.

He was educated at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
