University colleagues will be saddened to hear of the death on 16th June 2016 of Professor Keith Cowling, a longstanding member of the Economics Department but also an important figure in the University of Warwick and in the public sphere more generally.

Michael Shattock, never one to scatter praise wildly;

Keith was in fact much more than a ‘good University citizen’ and his contribution over 36 years is one of the reasons why the Economics Department and the University occupy the positions they do

In addition to playing a central role in the early strength of the Economics Department through his publications but also his dynamism and forcefulness in securing several key professorial appointments, Keith served for a total of 21 years on Senate, had several terms on Estimates and Grants Committee, also served on Finance and General Purposes, Academic Policy Committee and various others, and had a period as Chair of Faculty Board and took his turn as Chair of the Department.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday 12 July, 11:15am at Canley Crematorium, Cannon Hill. Our thoughts are with his wife Barbara, and all his family at this time.
