New role for Professor Giovanni Ricco

Congratulations to Professor Giovanni Ricco, who has been appointed Director of the Monetary Economics and Fluctuations Programme at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

CEPR was created in 1983 to improve the quality of economic policy-making by co-ordinating policy-relevant research and sharing the findings to policymakers and society.

The MEF programme is one of CEPR’s fourteen research Programme Areas. It brings together talented monetary economists from around the world to tackle questions related to monetary policy, inflation, central banking, business cycles and macroeconomic dynamics.

Members meet for an annual four-day symposium, the European Summer Symposium for International Macroeconomics (ESSIM) which is held jointly with the IMF, MG and MEF programmes, and take part in conferences and online seminars.

As Programme Director, Giovanni will provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction of the group’s research.

Giovanni takes over the role from Professor Refet Gürkaynak of Bilkent University, who served six years as Director.
