Why did you choose Warwick?

I chose to pursue my MSc in Economics and International Financial Economics at the University of Warwick because of its exceptional global reputation, consistently topping domestic and international rankings in economics research and teaching excellence. The Department’s dynamic faculty, diverse course offerings, and vibrant academic environment made Warwick the ideal choice for advancing my studies. I was particularly impressed by Warwick's commitment to fostering innovation and critical thinking—qualities essential for navigating today’s complex economic challenges.

What appealed to you about the MSc programme and what skills have you developed?

The curriculum structure of this programme is one of its most compelling aspects. Over the course of a single academic year, students engage in a rigorous schedule spanning three terms. In Term 1, you study three compulsory modules: Econometrics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. A distinctive feature of the programme is the flexibility to tailor your learning by selecting modules at different levels of difficulty - A or B. The "A" stream provides a broader theoretical perspective, while the "B" stream emphasizes mathematical and research-focused approaches, allowing students to delve deeper into analytical aspects. This flexibility has enabled me to engage meaningfully with the broader implications of the subjects while strengthening my research skills.

What has been the highlight so far?

One highlight of the course is the Econometrics module, which extends into Term 2. This continuity ensures a strong foundation, culminating in a project that applies econometric concepts to real-world problems - a truly enriching experience. In Term 2, you also select three optional modules from an extensive range, including Development Economics, Industrial Organisation, Advanced Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics, alongside specialised finance modules. Notably, students can choose electives offered by Warwick Business School, which broadens the learning horizon. I opted for Finance and Investment and Applications in Data Science, aligning with my career aspirations and passion for studying the intersection of data in the financial world to solve complex problems.

The final term is dedicated to an original dissertation based on a unique research question. This experience provides the opportunity to deep dive into independent research, fostering creativity and critical thinking to address global economic issues. For me, the dissertation represents the culmination of the program, bringing together the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the year.

Beyond academics, the MSc program’s multi-faceted approach has been incredibly rewarding. Lectures provide clarity on complex topics, while seminars and events offer opportunities to interact with world-class professors and peers, many of whom have achieved remarkable accolades in their fields. This dynamic interplay of learning and networking is both inspiring and intellectually stimulating.

The holistic experience at Warwick extends far beyond the classroom. The University offers excellent facilities, including access to diverse clubs, sports departments, career counselling, well-being experts, and various cultural and recreational events. These resources make studying here not just an academic pursuit but a well-rounded life experience.

What are your career aspirations?

Looking ahead, I aspire to leverage my skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully in the fields of finance and investment or within an international financial organisation, shaping impactful economic policies. Warwick’s exceptional program has provided me with the analytical, quantitative, and research capabilities necessary to achieve these goals, and I am confident that my time here will serve as a strong foundation for a successful and fulfilling career.
