Why did you choose Warwick?

I chose to study for the MSc Economics at Warwick due to its renowned reputation to be a top-ranked department in the UK and globally. I also chose to study at Warwick, as I could learn from a Department that is led by research excellence and have the opportunity to gain insights from experts who are leaders in their fields. Finally, I chose to study my MSc Economics at Warwick as I knew that due to its rigorous training, varied module options offered, and careers support, I would be able to choose from a diversity of career paths

What appealed to you about Warwick's MSc courses and what did you enjoy the most?

I enjoyed choosing different versions of the core modules as it allowed me to learn more about the subjects and align them with my career aspirations. For example, I chose to do 'Microeconomics' and 'Macroeconomics A' because I wanted to learn more about the application of those topics to the real world. I also chose 'Econometrics B' so that I could understand further the fundamentals behind what I learned at undergraduate level. I also enjoyed the large catalogue of modules we could choose from for our optional modules.

What skills have you developed and how have they helped in your chosen career?

While studying at Warwick I further developed my organisation and time-management skills. I had to balance multiple assignments for different modules, with different importance, in a very short amount of time. This has prepared me well in my chosen career as I often have to complete multiple tasks under strict deadlines and need to identify which tasks are of priority.

I have further improved my critical thinking and analytical skills. During my dissertation, I had to evaluate past literature to analyse gaps in the existing literature and formulate the hypothesis for my research question. I had to analyse large data sets, identify trends, perform robustness checks and be able to form data-driven insights to my research question. This is useful in my career paths as I am currently working with large data sets and need to provide critical insights based on my analysis.

What job do you do now and which skills do you use?

I am a Senior Analyst at a Marketing Effectiveness and foresight consultancy. We analyse large economic, retail, and marketing data sets and build complex models to provide data-informed and actionable insights for clients about their marketing investments. I hence use my analytical and critical thinking skills.

In my job, I also use my collaboration and time-management skills, as I often have to work closely with colleagues to build those models under strict deadlines.
