MSc Economics

Why did you choose Warwick?
I chose to pursue my MSc in Economics at Warwick due to the Department's strong international reputation and alignment with my academic and professional goals. Although relatively young the Department has risen rapidly to compete with well-established universities in the UK and globally. Its ascent to being ranked among the top 40 economics departments in the world is a testament to the quality of teaching and research produced here. This rapid rise reflects Warwick’s commitment to fostering excellence and equipping students with the tools to succeed in highly competitive environments.
What appealed most about Warwick's MSc courses?
What particularly appealed to me about Warwick’s MSc Economics programme were the exceptional professors and teaching staff, whose expertise and dedication to research create an enriching learning environment. Modules such as Advanced Macroeconomic Theory (Macroeconomics B) and Monetary Economics stand out as highlights, combining theoretical depth with practical applications.
What skills have you developed?
During my time at Warwick, I have developed key skills that will be invaluable in my career as an economist. Training in coding and econometric techniques has significantly enhanced my analytical capabilities, enabling me to handle complex data and derive actionable insights. The hands-on approach of the programme has provided me with a robust skill set that is highly relevant in today's data-driven world.
The Deputy Governor and the Sub-Governor for Monetary Policy at the Central Bank of Egypt were genuinely impressed with what I was able to produce in my dissertation under academic supervision, and with the knowledge I gained through the Macroeconomics B and Monetary Economics modules.
Did you receive a scholarship?
The Economics Excellence Scholarship made it possible for me to join the MSc at Warwick, as it covered my tuition and gave me the chance to fully commit to the degree. It shaped my academic experience from the start, allowing me to grow, learn, and engage with the research frontier in economics. Because of this support, I was able to connect with leading faculty, work closely with my advisor, and take on a challenging dissertation, a project I consider the culmination of my studies here. It played a real role in defining my year at Warwick and in helping me develop as an economist.
What do you do now?
I am an economist in the Monetary Policy Sector at the Central Bank of Egypt.
