Our Community Values

[00:03] Professor Jeremy Smith (Head of Department) Within the Department we hold values and expectations of how we expect individuals to behave, both within the University and within the Department. So our values are: Respect. That everyone in the community has a right to be treated with respect, irrespective of the of their personal characteristics.

[00:21] Jahnavi Maganti (Yr3 BSC Economics and Industrial Organisation) Respect to me is about valuing someone’s opinion and not judging them for it.

[00:26] Nivaria Morales Salas – IT Developer I believe each person has infinite potential and that’s why they deserve to be treated with respect.

[00:32] Ramkumar Govindaswamy (Senior Undergraduate Administrator) Respect means to me, you treat everyone the way you want to be treated.

[00:37] Professor Robin Naylor (Director of Studies) I think it means being available to all colleagues and students. Being approachable and listening to colleagues and to students with the same kindness and courtesy and the same intention to support, for all colleagues.

[00:52] Dr Michela Redoano (Associate Professor) To me respect is recognising that we all contribute in the same way to the success of the Department.

[01:00] Professor Jeremy Smith (Head of Department) We are also guided by the principles of integrity, fostering an open and inclusive environment for all individuals who visit the University and visit the Department.

[01:09] Professor Jeremy Smith Inclusivity is important because I think unless people feel relaxed and welcomed in the Department they can’t perform at their best.

[01:16] Lisa Hayes (HR Officer) We are all important. No ’one’ person is more important than the other. We all play a part.

[01:23] Dr Atish Ghosh (Teaching Fellow) Inclusivity is important because to me it means understanding, respecting and valuing individual differences so that everyone in the workplace feels welcome, accepted and encouraged to fully participate in the workplace.

[01:40] Dr Isleide Zissimos (Teaching Fellow) Inclusivity gives the opportunity for us to be better professionals and better selves.

[01:47] Dr Nicholas Jackson (Senior Teaching Fellow) We are all here to learn and having a diverse workplace so colleagues and students from different backgrounds, different cultures and with different life experiences, is a fantastic opportunity to learn about other people’s experiences.

[02:09] Jin Nguyen (Year 3, BSc Economics and Industrial Organisation) You are going to learn about different cultures, meet new people, also build your confidence I guess. You meet new people and you learn more things from them and I think that’s a really crucial thing.

[02:20] Professor Jeremy Smith (Head of Department) So we ae also guided by the principle of accountability. That each and every one of us is accountable for our actions. That we must treat all individuals that visit the Department and University with respect.

[02:31] Lisa Hayes (HR Officer) We should all be accountable for our behaviours, be respectful in the way that we interact with our colleagues and with our students. Not just face to face but also via any other communications.

[02:41] Professor Robin Naylor (Director of Studies) I think that the way we behave in the workplace necessarily has to be somewhat different from how we behave at home and in our social lives.

[02:49] Lisa Hayes (HR Officer) We all have a part to play in making the economics community successful.

[02:53] Jahnavi Maganti (Yr3 BSC Economics and Industrial Organisation) This environment makes the students feel open and welcome at Warwick. This way every student that comes into Warwick feels like Warwick is their own.
