Study Abroad
Economics Study Abroad
[00:14] Keshav Thakrar (BSc Economics with Study Abroad)
I studied at the University of Waterloo in Canada. I found studying abroad to be a really interesting experience. Living and working in another city was very exciting, and I feel that I really grew more independent as a result from it.
[00:30] What attracted me to study abroad in Canada was the vibrant city that I was going to be staying in. It was very vast and open, and I was also able to explore the landscapes of Ontario as well. One thing that I really enjoyed was celebrating St. Patrick's Day over there.
[00:48] So I found the Economics Department at Waterloo to be very friendly, and there was a lot of support, right from choosing my modules, all the way to the assessment at the end, and the wider university. They supported me in finding accommodation and credit loans.
[01:07] So I found that there was a lot of support from Warwick. In the Economics Department, we had a Teams call with the Undergraduate Office every few weeks, and it was really nice to catch up with the staff and also the other students studying abroad, and the Student Mobility team also supported us very much.
[01:26] I think that studying abroad has prepared me for life beyond Warwick, in a way that I now have experienced another part of the world and so it's made me more adaptable as a person because I was out of my comfort zone and had to really adjust to changes.
How to apply
[01:51] In your second year, you'll be invited to a presentation given by the Department in which they will announce the list of university partners which you can apply for and give you information on the application process and about the entire year abroad you'll undertake.
[02:09] So the advice I would give to somebody considering studying abroad in the Economics Department would be to really study hard in first year to gain a solid academic performance and then write in your personal statement really why you want to do this opportunity, what motivates you and then obtain a reference from your personal tutor.
[02:31] If I had to summarise my study abroad experience in three words, it would be rewarding, challenging, but also relaxing.
