Renters’ Rights Bill Event with Kieran Yates

.

The Renters' Rights Bill, currently making its way through parliament, has been hailed as a watershed moment for the legal rights of tenants. This includes providing stronger protections against evictions, abolishing fixed term assured tenancies and assured shorthold tenancies, and imposing obligations on landlords and others in relation to rented homes and temporary and supported accommodation. But will it really deliver? Critics argue that landlords may still exploit loopholes, and underfunded councils could struggle to enforce new rules. For a generation trapped in insecure, overpriced housing, these questions are urgent. In this talk, Kieran Yates will reflect on the bill and whether it is too little, too late.

Kieran Yates is a journalist, broadcaster and author who writes regularly on youth culture, housing, immigration and politics for publications including the Guardian, the Independent and VICE. Her debut book about home and the housing crisis is titled: ‘All The Houses I’ve Ever Lived In: Finding Home in a System that Fails us’.
