Guest Talk | Extreme Weather, Resource Insecurity and HIV Vulnerability

- Export as iCalendar
Location: A1.51 (Warwick Medical School)

The Warwick Centre for Global Health invites you to a talk by Professor Carmen Logie (MSW, PhD University of Toronto).

How is HIV prevention and care connected with extreme weather events and water, sanitation, and food insecurity? The causal pathways accounting for these associations are understudied. This is particularly true in certain contexts (for instance, humanitarian settings) and among socially marginalised populations (e.g. adolesent girls, sex workers).

Prof. Logie will present findings from three mixed-methods community-based studies in two climate and HIV affected contexts, including a) Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement, Uganda, with refugee youth, b) key populations (sex workers and men who have sex with men) living with HIV in Kampala, Uganda, and c) in Kenya, with adolescents in urban informal setllements in Nairobi and in fishing communities outside of Kisumu.

The talk will offer suggestions for climate and EWE-informed HIV cascade research and practice with climate-affected populations in East Africa.
