As an online panel event, representatives from a variety of organisations including Giving Directly, Social Development Direct and the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), will be asked a series of career-related questions followed by an opportunity for students to ask their own. This year’s PGR conference will take place on Wednesday 15 February 2023, and the theme is ‘Law in Dark Times’. The organising committee (made of our brilliant PhD colleagues Arrin Lewis, Charlotte Higgs and Priscilla Vitoh) has put together a call for papers – please feel free to share widely.

The keynote speaker for the conference is Prof Davina Cooper who is going to talk about prefigurative law reform research and the challenges of using the law for social transformation, based on her recently completed project ‘The future of legal gender’.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT: We invite interested participants to submit abstracts of no more than 250 words via this form via this form PGR Conference 2023 by Monday, 9th January 2023. Apart from the abstracts, the form will collect data including the applicant's name, current degree programme, year/stage of PhD, name of institution and contact details. Meet our guest speaker: Orin Begum, an associate in asset finance at NRF. She is a state-educated, first-generation immigrant who graduated from Oxford and trained as a solicitor at Clifford Chance. During the event, she will cover her experience as a BAME woman in the law and provide insight into her time at the firms she has worked at. We will also have a Q&A session and end the event with an informal networking session.

This webinar (via MS Teams) will be a short presentation on creating CVs, covering letters and completing application forms. It will be followed by the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have regarding writing effective applications.

This workshop will cover: How to approach questions on application forms; How to construct a CV for a specific role; How to show motivation in a cover letter; and General application top tips.

In economic globalization, competition agencies have referred to the unilateral and extraterritorial application of domestic competition rules and bilateral cooperations as the main legal instruments to tackle the challenges. Such enforcement does not necessarily promote international trade liberalization. The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which came into force in January 2022, is the world's largest free trade area covering the ten ASEAN member states and its five FTA partners. Chapter 13 of the RCEP agreement sets out principles and institutional framework for competition law enforcement within the multilateral partnership. The paper critically assesses the arrangement and examines to what extent it has departed from the unilateral and bilateral extraterritorial application of competition laws and constituted a novel model.
