Warwick academic links up with LLM Alumna at UN Conference
Warwick Law School’s Markus Wagner and LLM Alumna Hyoeun Yang both participated at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development High-Level International Investment Agreement, which took place from the 9-11 October 2017 at the Geneva Office of the United Nations.
The conference brought together delegations from dozens of countries, non-governmental organizations and subject matter experts. It took stock of sustainable development-oriented international investment agreement (IIA) reform and shared experiences of the countries that are undergoing such changes. Furthermore, it identified best practices for phase 2 of IIA reform, including substantive, procedural and institutional improvements.
Markus told us “Hyoeun and I were both selected as rapporteurs for the first session of this meeting - discovering on the morning of the first day our Warwick connection.”
Hyoeun studied on our LLM in International Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation and graduated back in 2010. When asked about her LLM, Hyoeun said “there's a lot to say about my time at Warwick indeed - but I would like to mention that the pragmatic and interdisciplinary approach of the programme and the law faculty provided a good soil to make the most of my unique academic background and curiosity.”
She goes on to say “my time at Warwick significantly influenced the way I tackle complex issues in my research, and the enjoyment I had writing my thesis convinced me that I would like to continue exploring the subject in my professional career.”
Hyoeun is now a Senior Researcher for the G20 Research Support Group at the Korean Institute for International Economic Policy. This involves research on questions concerning international trade, investment law and financial regulations.
We love to see our Alumni succeeding in their careers and welcome any opportunity to catch up with them in the professional field.
