Law Alumni Inspire Current Students
Staff, LLM students and Warwick alumni came together last month to discuss career opportunities and the realities of life after graduation.
The Alumni/LLM Employability and Networking reception took place down at our Warwick in London offices near Kings Cross, and offered current students the opportunity to learn from the experiences of our law alumni and seek advice about their futures.
The event was chaired by Professor Alan Neal (also a Warwick alumnus) and a presentation was given by our careers advisor Valerie Matthews-Lane, before panel discussions in both the areas of Commercial Law and International Development. A number of alumni sat on the panels to talk about their current roles and their experience of finding a job after graduation. The panellists included partners from international law firms, legal directors from major UK companies, members of UK regulatory agencies, corporate governance analysts and members of the civil service and charity sectors. Following the discussion, attendees were able to network over some drinks and nibbles.
Organised by our programme directors Dr Andreas Kokkinis, Dr Kathryn McMahon and Dr Jayan Nayar, the event was a huge success. Luciana, one of our current students told us, “This high-value inspirational event has provided me with different first-hand professional experiences and gave me grounds and confidence to pursue a role that fits in with my personal interests. Now, I am completely aware that my legal background and the knowledge acquired during my LLM will allow me to perform -without limits- flexible roles in the international business world.”
It wasn’t just valuable for our current students. One of our panellists, Adham (who graduated from the IDLHR LLM back in 2016) commented “It was great to meet the current students and very encouraging to see the proactive and committed IDLHR cohort who are clearly thinking hard about their future and society.” Adham is now working as a Business Tax Analyst for Deloitte LLP.
Dr Kathryn McMahon told us, “we are very grateful to our Warwick Alumni for making the time to speak with and inspire our LLM students in their future careers; the students really appreciated learning practical details about a range of different workplace environments and career paths.”
Congratulations to the organisers of the event and a huge thanks to all those who took the time to attend; it was lovely to see you all.
