International Conference organised in honour of Professor Shaheen Ali

An international conference was organised by the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany in collaboration with Warwick Law School, Coventry University and Brill Publishers on the 6-7 June 2024 to honour the contribution to Islamic Law scholarship by Professor Shaheen Sardar Ali.

With over a hundred and fifty participants in person and online, this two day conference brought together eminent Islamic law scholars, academics, judges and representatives of non-governmental organisations from the United Kingdom, United States of America, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Nigeria, Egypt resulting in very vibrant debates and discussion in Professor Shaheen Ali’s areas of scholarship and its international impact.

Reflecting on the conference, Professor Shaheen Ali stated:

“I am deeply humbled to see so many friends, colleagues, as well as my former students join in person and online to celebrate different areas of my scholarship. The time and effort each speaker invested into their presentations was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed engaging in the conversations. It is an honour to be singled out and to hear of the impact that my teaching and research has had on so many people in such a wide range of countries.”
