WLS Research Fellow is panellist at ALLEA Scientific Symposium

Dr. Aisel Omarova, BA Fellow at the University of Warwick, was invited as a panellist to the scientific symposium of the ALLEA “Crises and the Importance of Research: How Prepared Can We Be?” on the 22 June 2023, which was hosted by UK member academies, the British Academy, the Learned Society of Wales, the Royal Society, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Aisel had a presentation on the topic of deported and forcibly transferred Ukrainian children in Russia's war from Ukraine. She cited statistics on children affected by the war, including deported and/or forcibly transferred children. She also highlighted the issues of the category of children who were deported and/or forcibly transferred, the grounds that were used for deportation and/or forcible transfer, as well as the qualification of this crime.

Generally, this event was aimed to explore pressing issues from the fields of science, society, and policy, and provided a platform for international, interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral debate. The scientific symposium ‘Crises and the Importance of Research: How Prepared Can We Be?’ invited international experts to explore how research contributes to responding to and preparing for multiple and entangled crises of our times.
