Student satisfaction at WLS rises to 83% in NSS

Despite the challenges to teaching over the last few years, Warwick Law School has seen its student satisfaction rate rise again to 83% in the 2022 National Student Survey (NSS), a 1.6% increase since 2021 and 1.7% higher than the University average.

It is a significantly higher score than the national average, with the nationwide survey of over 300,000 final year students finding that overall, 76.3% of university students were satisfied with the quality of their course. The latest result places Warwick Law School 4th in the Russell Group for law subjects.

Law students have appreciated our efforts to improve their learning experience and minimise the impact of the pandemic on their teaching.

The annual survey asks students questions about a range of factors related to their academic experience, including the teaching on their course, assessment and feedback, student voice, and how well courses are organised.

At WLS 89% of undergraduate students agreed that teaching staff “were good at explaining things”, with 92% believing their course was “intellectually stimulating” and 92% agreeing they had the “right opportunities to provide feedback”

We also saw great results in our subject rankings in the following areas:

  • 1st in Russell Group for Student Voice
  • 3rd in Russell Group for Learning Opportunities
  • 4th in Russell Group for Overall Satisfaction
  • 5th in Russell Group for Learning Resources
  • 6th in Russell Group for Organisation & Management

Professor Dallal Stevens, Deputy Head of Teaching and Learning said: "We have worked tirelessly over two years of the pandemic to ensure our students have had as good an experience as possible and that they leave Warwick well-prepared for the next stage of their lives. We focused on students’ education and welfare and listening to – and engaging with - our students was extremely important to us. We are delighted, therefore, to see that our efforts have been appreciated: for the second consecutive year, Warwick Law is ranked top amongst Russell Group Law Schools for Student Voice and we have continued to perform well for Learning Community, Learning Opportunities and Teaching on the Course. I would like to thank all staff and students for the positive way in which they approached these difficult times.”

Professor Victor Tadros, Head of Warwick Law School commented: “I am delighted to see that we have sustained our strong NSS results, reflecting the continued commitment that academics and professional services staff have to engaging with our students, listening to their concerns, and supporting them in both their academic studies and their welfare. It is excellent to see that students have appreciated the effort that we have put in to achieve this in challenging times, and we are grateful to them for their excellent contribution to developing the rich community of legal scholars at Warwick.”

The results of the survey revealed high student satisfaction rates among Warwick students as a whole, as the University was placed 3rd in the Russell Group for overall satisfaction. It also ranked first within the Russell Group for Assessment and Feedback, and Student Voice and ranked highly for Academic Support, Learning Opportunities, Teaching, and Organisation and Management.
