Law Alumnus appointed to rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)

Congratulations to Warwick Law School alumnus Olanrewaju Akinsola on his appointment to the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Former Warwick Law School student Olanrewaju Akinsola, who studied on our LLM in International Economic Law (2004), is a Lead Partner at Priory Terrace Solicitors, and has been chosen by The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) to be appointed to the rank of SAN for making exceptional contributions to the legal profession in Nigeria. He was sworn in on Monday 29 September 2025.

The rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is awarded as a mark of professional excellence to legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either as advocates in the courts or as academics contributing significantly to the development of legal scholarship.

When asked about his appointment. Olanrewaju told us:

“Being conferred with this rank is a milestone of immense significance in my career, and it is one I am proud to share with my alma mater. As I reflect on this achievement, I am deeply appreciative of the foundational academic exposure and professional shaping I received at the University of Warwick. The intellectual rigour, diverse scholarly environment, and strong emphasis on independent and critical thinking continue to influence my work at the Bar and in public life. I also recall with profound gratitude the recognition I received in 2017, when I was honoured with the British Council Alumni Professional Achievement Award for Nigeria as a result of my Warwick education. That recognition affirmed the value of my Warwick experience and further inspired my commitment to excellence and service.

Please accept my sincere appreciation for the University’s enduring role in my professional journey. I remain proud to be associated with Warwick and committed to upholding the values that the institution instilled in me. Thank you for continuing to nurture scholars and practitioners who make meaningful contributions across the world.”

Congratulations Olanrewaju on this incredible achievement. Warwick Law School is extremely proud of you.
