CCC hosts first-of-its-kind practice-academia interface event at the Inner Temple, London

The Centre for Constitutions in Context (CCC) hosted a first-of-its-kind event titled 'Enhancing the Dialogue Between Public Law Practice and Academia', co-hosted with the UK Constitutional Law Association. The event took place at The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, London earlier this month on 24 June.

It brought together CCC members, students from the Warwick Bar Society, leading public law researchers, and a range of practitioners, including judges, barristers, NGO practitioners, and parliamentary staff, to discuss this important topic. It featured a roundtable discussion among Lord Justice Rabinder Singh (Court of Appeal), Professor Alison Young (Law Commission/Cambridge), Dominic Grieve KC (Temple Garden Chambers), and Professor Tom Hickman KC (Blackstone Chambers/UCL), moderated by CCC co-directors Dr Mara Malagodi and Dr David Vitale. The roundtable was followed by a reception where participants continued the conversation.

This first-of-its-kind event, centered on the interface between practice and academia in public law. It initiated a discussion on how this important 'practice academia dialogue' can be enhanced to support good governance. It explored how practitioners and academics engage with each other's work, and how this collaboration can be facilitated. To this end, it examined, among other aspects, examples of successful synergies, channels for practitioners to access relevant academic work, tailoring academic research to be of greater use to practitioners, and other means of enhancing this dialogue.
