WLS makes oral phase of Oxford IP Moot Competition
The Warwick Law School team recently participated in the oral phase of the Oxford Intellectual Property Moot, held in-person at the University of Oxford, from 19-22 March 2025. Following their successful qualification through the challenging written phase, the team represented the university at this internationally renowned competition.
The team, comprising Eunice Fam, Laurence Lai, and Mia Sandhu, coached by Dr Luminita Olteanu, joined 31 other qualifying teams from universities across the globe. The Oxford IP Moot stands as one of the most prestigious intellectual property mooting competitions internationally, drawing talented participants from leading law schools worldwide.
When asked about their experience, the team told us:
"Participating in this competition was an incredibly educational and enriching experience. Despite our extensive mooting background, we still found the trademark-focused moot problem fairly challenging. Dr Luminita Olteanu's exceptional mentorship was instrumental to our growth and deepened our understanding and appreciation of the field."
"The competition also provided us with the invaluable opportunity to connect with students from 12 different countries, learn from leading academics and engage with experts such as The Right Honourable Lord Kitchin. All in all, these interactions, set against the historic and cultural backdrop of Oxford and the inspiring atmosphere of Pembroke College, motivated us, reinforcing our passion and enthusiasm for intellectual property law."
Dr Luminita Olteanu reflected on the experience:
"Our participation in this competition marks a significant milestone for Warwick's mooting programme. Working with Eunice, Laurence and Mia has been a thoroughly rewarding experience. I am immensely proud of their dedication and ability to rise to the challenge, especially given the limited preparation time available to them. I would also like to express my gratitude to Andrew Williams, the Head of School, and Gary Watt, the School’s Mooting Officer, for their steadfast support throughout this endeavour."
Congratulations to both Dr Olteanu and the team.
