PhD Candidate Wins Early Career Research Impact Award
Law School PhD Candidate Natalie Byrom has been awarded the University of Warwick’s 2014 Research Impact and Public Engagement Award for Early Career Research Impact.
Natalie’s work at the Centre for Human Rights in Practice on the project “Access to Justice and the Impact of Legal Aid Cuts” was recognised during a ceremony on July 3rd.
The Access to Justice project is concerned with mapping the impact of cuts to civil legal aid on vulnerable groups. The research aims to provide a robust evidence base for the impact of the cuts that can be used by others to campaign for change. It is also intended to explore the different structures for the delivery of legal advice that emerge as a result of the cuts, and to evaluate their efficacy in enabling individuals to access justice.
During the course of the project Natalie has authored the report “The State of the Sector: The impact of cuts to civil legal aid on practitioners and their clients” and given multiple media appearance on its findings.
