Best Individual Contribution at the Attorney general's Pro Bono Awards 2010.

AG Awards 2010 AG

We are very pleased to announce that Natasha Latiff won the Best Individual Contribution at the Attorney general's Pro Bono Awards 2010.   Natasha was commended for her outstanding commitment to women's rights. Her award noted the following:

At the age of 17 Natasha travelled alone to Afghanistan to visit schools and interviewed locals on terrorism and human rights.  Only a few years later she has successfully led a new project, Femin Ijtihad, aimed at researching, summarizing and disseminating legal information on the legal rights of Muslim women.

The project has now spread to four countries and draws resources from 50 researchers based in universities around the world.  Natasha has travelled to Afghanistan every year since her first visit and continues to make links to local NGOs.

Natasha is a visionary young leader who has recognized the importance of legal jurisprudence and analysis in the application of women’s rights in Muslim countries… Her efforts will no doubt help Afghan women not only today, but for years to come.

Unfortunately Natasha could not attend the ceremony but her colleagues Zeenat Islam and Bonnie Cooke were able to collect the award on her behalf.

YOU*th Inspire, a project led by Zeenat Islam was also shortlisted under the 'Best New Project' category and recieved a high commendation award.
