Lacuna: Artists

  • Can you produce clear, eye-catching images to support our stories?
  • Do you have an interest in communicating human rights issues through art?
  • Do you have excellent time-management and organisational skills?

We are looking for artists to produce clear, eye-catching images that support our stories. For stories without supporting photography we call on artists and designers to produce creative images to sit alongside the text. The subject matter is not always easy to illustrate so we’re looking for bright ideas and imagination. After reading a story we’ll expect you to create basic sketches to give us a rough idea of what you plan to produce. You’ll work with the editor to come up with a final design.

An interest in human rights and sensitivity to the subjects we’re writing about is essential. A portfolio or Instagram profile showing your previous work is desirable. The successful candidates will be enthusiastic and reliable. We need you to have excellent time-management and organisation to deliver work to deadline. These roles operate on an ad hoc basis but are likely to require around 5 hours of work every fortnight (at a mutually convenient time to be arranged with the editor). This position is paid at approx. £13 per hour.

To apply, please produce a basic piece of art relating to any story on our site that isn’t already accompanied by art (you can use stories accompanied by photography). Email this as a jpg or PDF with your CV (including links to any relevant work) and a covering letter (max 250 words), both as PDFs, to hello@lacuna.org.uk with the subject “Artist application” by 12 noon on Sunday 20th October 2024.

(These positions are open to current undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Warwick only. You may apply for more than one role with LacunaLink opens in a new window)
