Lacuna: Publicity Assistant
We are looking for candidates who are keen to learn the nuts and bolts of online journalism, developing stories from first draft to front page. An interest in human rights is vital and the ideal candidates will regularly bring ideas for new content. You’ll work with Lacuna’s editor to upload multimedia stories to the website, grow Lacuna’s social media profiles and promote our content to the widest possible audience.
Knowledge of WordPress or another content management system is useful but not essential. Some background in online publishing/blogging would be handy, as would an understanding of content marketing, tone of voice and the potential of social media for reaching new audiences. The successful candidates will be enthusiastic, reliable, and able to show they have excellent time management. You will be expected to join our small team for a weekly 4-hour shift on a Wednesday. This position is paid at approx. £13 per hour.
To apply:
- Please format this short article in Microsoft Word or on Canva in typical Lacuna style, adding copyright-free images and anything else you think might enhance the presentation of the story, so that it corresponds with the posts on our website. Your job is to make this draft story ready to publish. (This is a sample article including fictional people, places and events, created for the purpose of this recruitment task. If there is anything in the article you are unsure of, just add a comment to flag it up for the editor)
-
To promote this article, draft:
- a thread (with as many posts as you think are optimal) for Twitter or Threads,
- a Facebook post and
- an Instagram post.
-
And finally, suggest 10 relevant individuals or organisations you would share the article with to optimise its audience.
Email this as a Microsoft Word doc or PDF with your CV (including links to any relevant work) and a covering letter (max 250 words), also as PDFs, to hello@lacuna.org.uk with the subject “Publicity application” by 12 noon on Sunday 20 October 2024.
Please note: We cannot respond to questions about this application before the deadline, but we are looking for potential, not perfection, so please just do your best.
