Born in Scotland Data Trust – what is a data trust and what are the opportunities and challenges for health research? July 2023

In the digital era, a growing range of daily activities are facilitated by digital technologies, and the volume and variety of data available is greater than ever before. But how we govern data in a trustworthy manner and support data use for societal benefit is an ongoing question for law, policy and practice.

Data trusts are emerging as a new model for information governance and a participatory approach to data stewardship. We’re looking at how the data trust model might work in the context of health research, specifically the Born in Scotland in the 2020s birth cohort study.

Watch our animation below to find out more about data trusts and our project. his animation is a Nifty Fox production, based on research carried out by the Universities of Warwick and Edinburgh, and the Association for Young People’s Health.
