Centre's Report for the Scottish Human Rights Commission on HRIA Now Published

In April 2010, Dr James Harrison, Mary Ann-Stephenson (External Member of the Centre) and Andrew Williams were commissioned by the Scottish Human Rights Commission to review all the practice of conducting human rights impact assessments in the UK and internationally and to produce guiding principles for conducting future human rights impact assessments.

Their final report includes an eight-step process that can be utilised in any HIA process and detailed recommendations for how those eight steps should be implemented. The report also includes illustrations of how this HRIA process will function.

Centre Responds to Guiding Principles for the Implementation of the United Nations ‘Protect, Respect and Remedy’ Framework

Dr James Harrison has formulated a response to Professor Ruggie on the Guiding Principles for the Implementation of the UN's 'Protect, Respect and Remedy' Framework.

Now Accepting Applications for Summer Intern Post

The Warwick Centre for Human Rights in Practice undertakes a wide variety of research, capacity building and project work. Established since 2006, the Centre seeks to facilitate opportunities for students to engage with its areas of work in order to develop their experiences of human rights work of varying dimensions.

In light of this, the Centre is recruiting for an Intern for Summer 2011.

Start date: Negotiable

Duration: 6-8 weeks

Location: University of Warwick Campus

  • Academic research
  • Report Writing
  • Data collection & analysis
  • Project proposals
  • Website maintenance & update
  • Marketing and publicity of the Centre’s operations

  • Committed to the Centre’s areas of work
  • Confident to contribute new ideas
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Strong communication/research/writing skills
  • Flexibility with tasks
  • Ability to prioritise
  • Experience with website development/marketing via social media is desirable
