The European Court of Human Rights: Promoter or Predator of Democratic Transitions?
On 19-20 September, Centre research fellow Dr Alice Panepinto attended a multidisciplinary workshop on "The European Court of Human Rights: Promoter or Predator of Democratic Transitions?" co-hosted in Istanbul by the Center for Global Public Law at Koç University and MultiRights/PluriCourts, University of Oslo. The workshop explored the varieties of "democratic models" and "democratic transitions" on the basis of the jurisprudence of the Strasbourg Court. Participants included colleagues from Utrecht University, European University Institute, Poznań Human Rights Centre and the Hertie School of Governance. Alice's paper critically discussed the emerging right to the truth under PIL in relation to the ECtHR's recent jurisprudence. Read more in this blog post.
Understanding The Foodbank Phenomenon
Centre co-director James Harrison appeared on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire on Tuesday 15 September to discuss a Daily Mail story about people obtaining food at a foodbank in Nuneaton and then selling it to obtain money for drugs.
