Module Registrations

Module Pre-registration

The Law School uses a pre-registration system to avoid running a ‘first come, first served’ system, so you can take your time to consider which modules are right for you, provided your choices are in before the deadline. This is not the case for all departments within the University.

Module pre-registration for 2023/24 will opened on Monday 24 July 2023 and will close at midday on Friday 18 August 2023. We will confirm your module choices in September.

Module Pre-Registration Form

All Law and Joint Honours Law students will receive an email with a link to the pre-registration form when it opens on Monday 24 July 2023. If you are external to Law please follow the link to the pre-registration form hereLink opens in a new window.

Module Availability

Information on the available modules for 2023/24 can be found on our List of Undergraduate Modules for 2023/24Link opens in a new window and at the Module Options Fair.

If you would like any more information about the module content, please contact the appropriate convenor by going to the module webpageLink opens in a new window.

Keep in mind your course structure and any modules with pre-requisites. Consider the assessment methods for each module to balance your workload.

You need to select an equal number of module credits in each term, and a reserve option for each. A full course load for a full-time undergraduate student is 120 CATS, so you will need 60 CATS in each term. This will include your core modules. Please note that you are not allowed to take more than the allocated 120 CATS per academic year.

You may inadvertently choose modules that clash with each other in the timetable. If you do select modules that occur concurrently you will be notified.

  1. Be in your final year with us.
  2. Usually expect to achieve a 2:1 (60) average across your current year.

Law and Sociology:

You are not required to contact the Sociology department to request places on their modules, although, you may of course contact them if you have any specific queries. Please bear in mind the regulations for your course require you to take a certain number of modules from Sociology. Please refer to your course structureLink opens in a new window when completing the form.

Law with Humanities or Law with Social Sciences:

Some departments have a pre-registration system for selecting modules. Please check the departmental website for further information on their module registration process.

Law and Business:

Your choices will be made via my.wbs.

I would like to take an external module.

Please check your course structureLink opens in a new window to find out whether you can take an external module. Please note, you cannot swap out a core module for an external module. You can see what modules are available via the module catalogueLink opens in a new window.

  • Note: not every module will run in every year, and you will need to check the department website for information about if the module is running, and which term(s) it is available.
  • Check the department website to see if they require pre-registration for modules. Departments such as English, WBS, History and IATL all require pre-registration. You will need to pre-register for your module with these departments as well as Law.
  • Check that you meet any requirements for the module, eg. Maths, prerequisite modules, modules limited to specific courses.
  • Check that the module is an 'honours level' module, ie. not a first year module. Modules with a number beginning with 1 are usually first year modules and will not be permitted.

Language Modules

If you want to take a language module, you will need to register with the language centre later in the year and be assessed for your level. On the Module Registration form please let us know which language you are applying for. Final year students may not apply for a beginner level course, unless it is the beginners (accelerated) level.

WBS

Law students wishing to register for WBS modules must do so through the my.wbs system. You are not required to contact their undergraduate team or visit their office, although, you may of course contact them if you have any specific queries. In order to register for WBS modules, please set up your my.wbs accountLink opens in a new window which will enable you to access the module application system with ease when it is open. If you have problems logging in please consult their webpages for adviceLink opens in a new window.

All WBS modules need to be registered on BOTH eVision and my.wbs.

  • IB3F20 - Company Law
  • IB1130 - Business Law
  • IB2370 - Business Law 2
  • B3G40 - Law for Entrepreneurs
  • IB2C1 - Fundamentals of Business Law
  • IB3N4 - International Trade Law
I am supposed to go abroad next year as part of my course.

We are committed to enabling you to study abroad. However, in case of last-minute changes or cancellations, we will retain you a place on the Law modules we have listed until the beginning of term. If you are one of these students, please consider this list of modules as an ‘in the event of emergency’.

I pre-registered by the deadline. Is there anything else I need to do?

We will contact you with a list of the modules for which we have a confirmed space for you. The Law School will upload these to eVision on your behalf.

I missed the pre-registration deadline. How do I confirm my choices now?

Students who have missed the pre-registration deadline will be allocated to modules that still have availability. There will be no further opportunity to choose your modules once the pre-registration form has closed. If you have any queries, please contact us at undergraduate.law@warwick.ac.ukLink opens in a new window

Can I change my pre-registration choices?

You can resubmit and change your choices after submitting the form, until the pre-registration form closes.

If the pre-registration form has closed, you cannot make changes. We will review the pre-registration forms and confirm to you which modules we have reserved a place for you on. You will need to register for these modules when module registration (via eMR) opens in September.

What happens if a module is oversubscribed?

Some modules will fill to capacity, and you will be placed onto your reserve choices. Where a module is oversubscribed and we cannot fit every student on, but have a waiting list in place, we have given priority to our final year students, and then by the order of priority you selected when you chose your modules to begin with. You will be contacted if a place opens on the module you are interested in.

If a place becomes free on your original choice and you are at the top of the waiting list for a module, we will contact you. Please do not contact us to ask whether there is a space. If you have not been emailed, there is not yet a space.

Do you guarantee that all the modules listed will run next academic year?

We aim to run all modules currently listed as running in 2023/24. However, in the unlikely event that a module must be withdrawn you will be notified. Where possible we will allocate a place to students on their reserve choice.

What happens next?

Module Registration:

We will process all individual module requests and begin assigning every Law, Joint Honours Law, and exchange student to their Law modules. We will then take on the requests from any external students.

When we have approved module choices, you will be able to view a list of the modules for which we have confirmed a space for you. You will be contacted when the list is ready.

We will work individually with students where there are unavoidable clashes in the timetable, where a module can no longer run, or where external departments turn down their request, to find an alternative module.

Seminar Selection:

In weeks 1-2 of term, you will be able to choose your seminar groups using Tabula. More information on this will be released closer to the time.
